Club Update for 2019
As you may be aware, we changed the way we run our club, back in September. We’ve always been a relatively small club and have struggled (1) to get new members to join and (2) to get enough members to attend club nights to make it worthwhile inviting guest speakers.
For the current year, we decided to change things around to see if we could get more traction. Last year, we tried meeting fortnightly rather than weekly but that didn’t really work out as we still struggled to get members to attend. So this year we decided to set up a Meetup (www.meetup.com) group on a trial basis – ours is called “Dunboyne/Meath Photography Meetup” – and we will use it to organise our photography outings. Our first meetup, in October, was a night shoot at the Grand Canal Docks and 10 people attended. Our second event was a sunrise shoot at Bull Island on December 30th and we had 12 people there. We have another event scheduled for Sunday 6th January, this time to the Bull Wall – accessed via the famous wooden bridge in Clontarf. There are some wonderful photography opportunities around that location so if we get a nice sunrise it could be well worth your while coming along!
In addition to regular photography outings – our target is to have at least one Meetup event each month. We are also planning to have club meetings in Dunboyne Community Centre once a month to allow photography training, mentoring, Q&A sessions, plus interesting guest speakers. Once we have a confirmed schedule, details will be posted on our Facebook page, so be sure to check the page regularly.
If you’d like to join our group, you can contact us either through this website or message us on our Facebook page (search for Dunboyne Camera Club) – we’d love to hear from you.
